This is totally awesome. Correct me if my interpretation (its a quick one mind you) is wrong. You speak of the decay of man, who thinks it's so much better than the rest of the animals, when in fact we're worse.

Yes, that's the basic idea ... the decay of man. Our evolutionary pace is outstripping our ability, as a species, to co-opt and use the benefits of that evolution; in essence, we're "jumping the shark," to use a phrase from the world of television. The titular bad habits are our complaceny, decadence, the capacity to take all things for granted, and the ease with which we abandon an endeavor when the going gets rough.
